Lodola Nuova Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG is an elegant and traditional red wine from one of Tuscany’s oldest winemaking regions. This wine perfectly exemplifies the wines produced on Ruffino Estates – unique, artisanal, and benefiting from more than a century of winemaking expertise. The word ‘Lodola’ comes from the Italian word for ‘lark.’ For centuries, these songbirds have migrated to Montepulciano where this wine is made. The word ‘Nobile’ refers to the wine’s supreme, or noble, quality. The Lodola Nuova estate has records dating back to the mid-1200s and has been producing wine since the 15th century.
Only the finest, hand-harvested grapes from the Lodola Nuova Estate in the Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG are used to produce this wine. In 2004, the estate was updated with a spacious new winemaking and aging cellar constructed according to gravity-flow principles. This decreases the stress on the grapes during winemaking and preserves the natural aromas of the berries. After fermentation, additional contact with the grape skins continues for seven days to add intense color and fruit flavors, followed by malolactic fermentation for a lusciously smooth texture. Lodola Nuova then ages in oak for 18 months.
